Healing-Capable Hybrids Can be The Optimal Pick For DPS Spots — What A Shadow Priest Brings To The Table For Your Group

The shadow priests of WoW have a good thing going on for them. For one thing, out of all the game’s healers, shadow priest is the easiest spec to level bar none. But the real kicker is how awesome they are in groups. Now with a priest leveling guide, it’s easy enough to get to 80 without ever having to group up, I know that. But if you really want to feel like your shadow priest is a god, try running an instance or two past level 60.

The biggest strength of the shadow priest in groups is the level of versatility that they offer. Even before considering dual spec, a shadow priest can easily drop form and start acting as a backup healer. If you’re rocking good enough gear, main healing is even an option.

Most other healing classes can’t do this with their main DPS build. Since discipline and holy use the same stats as shadow, priests aren’t forced into keeping a second gear set on hand if they want to switch to healing. Feral druids, enhancement shamans, and retribution paladins have to focus primarily on melee gear, and bag space is enough of an issue that most do not carry around a set of healing gear. Neglecting the healing aspect of a hybrid class doesn’t make any sense to me, especially considering that you can go on the wow auction house and put together a decent healing set for under 100 gold on most servers. I guess some players just don’t care about playing to the potential of their class.

Utility is another area in which priests surpass other DPSers. Even in shadow form casting only damaging spells, they are still helping out by healing the group and feeding them mana. No other DPS class brings this kind of utility to the table. While shadow priests may lag behind the true DPS classes like rogues and mages in terms of raw damage output, they make up for it by providing a sort of safety net for the group. If you’re ever wondering what class to level and you want to solo well without giving up your group viability, give shadow priest a try.
